What is Holotropic Breathwork?

Holotropic Breathwork is a powerful method for self exploration and healing. One of the key underlying principles of this work is that we all have an innate capacity for healing,  and that in a safe set and setting our inner healer scans our body and psyche and brings to consciousness whatever has the most psycho-dynamic relevevance or charge at that time. Breathers are encouraged to follow whatever emerges, trusting their own innate wisdom.

Sessions are typically 2/12 - 3 hours long and usually happen in groups.  The work happens in pairs, so that one person 'breathes' for a session, while their partner 'sits' for them. For the next session, the roles are reversed. Faciltators are present for the sessions for support as needed, including support with focussed energy release work.  At the beginning of each session a facilitator will offer a short relaxation, supporting the breathers to take their focus within. At the end of the relaxation  breathers are encouraged to breathe a little deeper and a little faster than they usually would, breathing in this way until something changes. Music will be then be played for the duration of the session to support the inner journeys.

At the end of the session, breathers may need a litte time to return to a more familiar state of consciousness. Once the breather is sitting up and ready to engage a little, one of the facilitators will check in with them before encouraging the breather to take a little time to create a mandala or to journal.
